Supporting independent hospitality since 1995
Passionate about the hospitality sector and committed to saving you money
LSG Purchasing is the UK’s leading membership organisation for independent businesses in the hospitality sector.
During his 10 years setting up London health clubs and working at the likes of Cliveden House, Simon Durkin nurtured incredible relationships with the very best suppliers in hospitality. He realised that those relationships could benefit small, independent businesses if he brought them together. In 1995, he launched LSG Purchasing to do just that, giving independent sites the same buying power as the big guys.
We’ve been committed to offering savings and ongoing business support ever since.
Our journey
1984 - 1985
Our MD, Simon Durkin (a Gloucester native and avid rugby player) studies a Masters in Sports Administration at the Washington State University
1986 - 1990
Simon spends 5 years setting up luxury health clubs all over the London
1990 - 1994
Luxury hotel Cliveden House in Berkshire tasks Simon with installing a gym in what had been the stables before managing all leisure and spa activities. (Cue a game of tennis or two with A list celebrities…)
1994 - 1995
A development project to expand the Runneymede Hotel’s spa facilities is put on hold, offering Simon some free time to chat to close friend John Gellett, who worked at Courage Brewery. John introduced Simon to Courage’s ‘Impact Guide’ – a buying guide designed to help licensees run their businesses. And idea formed…
1995
Leisure Supply Buying Group was born, offering ‘Courage Impact Guide’ style support to health clubs.
1997
With a membership of 100 health clubs, Greene King got wind of what Simon and John were up to and partnered with them to form the Greene King Pub Partners Buying Group.
1997 - 2013
14 other regional brewers joined the membership, followed by the big boys – Unique and Enterprise. Membership grew to 13,000.
2013
With membership having expanded well beyond health clubs and pubs, we became LSG Purchasing.
2020 - 2023
The Covid-19 pandemic decimated the hospitality sector! But we’ve been fighting back, working even harder to support the industry in saving time, reducing costs and maximising profit.
2024 and beyond
Watch this space. We’ve got some big ideas which will help us support even more independent businesses like yours.
Simon Durkin
our MD
I am incredibly proud of building LSG Purchasing from nothing, weathering the amazing highs and (only a few) lows over the past 28 years.
I have to thank the extraordinary team that have helped me on the journey.
We’re all very excited about some big changes we are implementing, knowing the benefits they will bring to more and more small hospitality businesses.
